SHANA TUCKER

Lyrical storyteller. Soulful cellist. Dynamic singer-songwriter: SHANA TUCKER. Her unique genre of ChamberSoul™ weaves together jazz, roots folk, acoustic pop, and a touch of R&B, into melodies that echo in your head for days. She’s the rare performer you’ve never seen the likes of before—and one you’ll never forget.

“I’m intrinsically drawn to acoustic instruments -- their resonance, warmth, and intimacy,” she says. “ChamberSoul brings musicians and audience closer, and makes the music tangible, no matter how large or small the room is.” Steeped in story, Shana’s ChamberSoul is rich, deep music that wraps its arm around your shoulder and invites you to sit down for a spell. A sought-after collaborator, Shana performs regularly with legendary jazz saxophonist/composer Bennie Maupin, flutist/composer Nicole Mitchell, and Grammy-nominated, NC-based groove collective The Foreign Exchange. Recent Triangle area collaborations include They Are All, presented at American Dance Festival 2019 with Culture Mill’s Murielle Elizeon and Tommy Noonan; Continuing To Tell, a multidisciplinary public- space performance highlighting the history of Civil Rights in Durham, NC; and Kamara Thomas' Country Soul Songbook, also featuring Rissi Palmer, Kym Register and Phil Cook. Most recently, Shana was named the first-ever Artist in Residence at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts in Asheville, NC for their 2019-2020 concert season. Shana is also the host of LocalJazz.club, a new Durham-based pop-up jazz club series featuring nationally/internationally recognized jazz artists who call North Carolina home. Shana is a recipient of several arts council grant awards, including United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County (NC) and Nevada Arts Council grants, one of which was the prestigious NAC Artist Fellowship for her exemplary work as a Performing Artist. She serves on review panels and advisory committees for arts organizations across the country, including United Arts (NC), South Arts (GA), and Nevada Arts Council (NV). Shana is an advisory board member for the Washington Women in Jazz Festival, an annual event in Washington, DC that celebrates and promotes women jazz artists through concerts, jam sessions, lectures, panel discussions, masterclasses and a young artist competition. She is also a board member for North Carolina Presenters Consortium (NCPC), and Blair Publisher (formerly Carolina Wren Press), a North Carolina- based small press organization that publishes diverse minority writers of quality fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and children's literature. A front-line advocate for arts education, Shana brings her teaching artist workshops, residencies, informances and masterclasses to communities across the nation. Students are enamored by her contagious energy, engaging pedagogy and kid-centric songwriting collaborations.
