Alli Marshall is the the arts editor of the Asheville-based alternative newsweekly Mountain Xpress. She’s also a poet, fiction writer, and spoken word artist. She’s the author of the 2015 novel How to Talk to Rockstars, the 2017 chapbook It All Comes Rushing Back, and a number of zines.
Alli was interviewed by David Dye of NPR’s “World Cafe” when that show’s “Sense of Place” series visited Asheville. She has interviewed hundreds of artists, including Yoko Ono, Cyndi Lauper, Imogen Heap, Lingua Franqa, Andrea Gibson and Haley Heyndericks.
Alli has received numerous accolades for journalism and creative writing, such as the North Carolina Press Association’s award for Arts and Entertainment Reporting, the 2018 Ramsey Library Community Author Award, and the 2016 Thomas Wolfe Fiction Prize (judged by Ron Rash). She completed a writing residency at Arrowmont School’s 2019 Pentaculum. Her prose and poetry have been published in the Fredericksburg Literary & Art Review, Blurt!, Shuffle, Our State, MetroPop, FifeLines, and the Asheville Poetry Review.
Alli’s recently performed her one-woman show, “The Oracle of Everything,” at the 2019 Asheville Fringe Arts Festival.
